Most workwear is built for a warehouse; the Helmsman’s Rigger Shirt was born for the deck of a freighter in November. We took the DNA of traditional rigger shirts and over-engineered every stitch, every snap, and every fiber until it met the North Coast Standard.
The Material: 420 GSM Technical Armor
We rejected three rounds of standard denim to source this: a massive 12oz (420 GSM) 100% technical bull cotton. No synthetic blends, no shortcuts. Just pure, tightly woven long-staple cotton engineered to resist heavy abrasion on the docks. It delivers the absolute structural protection of a shield on day one, built to break in and shape to your movement over a lifetime of work.
The Architecture: Zero-Compromise Utility
The 4-Inch Gap: We tightened the snap-spacing to exactly 4 inches. No "button-gape" when you’re reaching across an engine block; just a clean, secure seal that locks out the gale.
Industrial Hardware: Custom-spec, corrosion-resistant stainless steel snaps designed for wet hands and cold mornings.
Internal Ventilation: Integrated heavy-duty mesh gussets to dump heat during heavy wrenching without compromising the clean, outward silhouette.

The Helmsman's Rigger Shirt is engineered as heavy-duty, premium utility apparel, not industrial safety gear. While the body is constructed from ultra-heavy 12oz/420 GSM 100% bull cotton canvas (which naturally chars rather than melts when exposed to heat), this garment is untreated and non-FR (Flame Retardant). Furthermore, the heavy-duty structural seams are sewn with high-tenacity marine polyester thread, which will melt under extreme temperatures.
This shirt is not certified PPE for welding, grinding, or regulated high-heat environments. Always wear approved, certified protective gear appropriate for your specific workspace hazards.
